Cracks and Fixed Points 1-5
2010 Clay on raffia on plywood / pencil, each 62 x 83 cm
Fixating the clay mass at various points, Christoph Oberholzer lets the clay dry and tear apart, marking the fixed points afterwards. He then also marks the analysis of the cracks on the dried clay slabs: The more small-scaled the individual cracks are, the more difficult is the subsequent analysis of what has happened.
The parched clay soil is a symbol of global warming and the constraints that condemn us to inaction. The clay soils correspond to the complex and unpredictable consequences of our rigid ways of thinking.

Alpha and Omega
2010 various materials, 35 x 74 x 13 cm
In the work “Alpha and Omega” Christoph Oberholzer lets miniature clay columns dry, clamped in a metal frame covered with Euro notes. The clay columns crumble from the solidity of the frame. Oh Greece, you gentle cradle of our humanistic, democratic, philosophical culture.
